“Beauty lies in the hands of the beholder” we seem to often say. But what is beauty if we may ask? Beauty is intangible and merely a perception in our minds. Humanity seems not to unilaterally agree on anything and say this is beautiful. Beauty has social, cultural, economic and other values surrounding it and since we all have different backgrounds each with its own values; our rating of beauty is equally different. What might seem beautiful in a night club may not necessarily be beautiful to congregation in church. What is beautiful in Hollywood could be “haram” in Kabul! However humanity seems to agree on what constitutes beauty though degrees of grading in society differ from each other. Beauty needs to be appealing, attractive, admirable, respectable and have other positive values in the eyes of the society or individuals. Beauty cannot stand on its own is therefore relative and comparable to other alternatives available.

Miss Tourism Uganda is a platform that raises awareness of beautiful resources in the country for tourism industry. The final contestants are the cream of the young ladies (age group) chosen through the whole country. They must be knowledgeable and passionate about our country. Must have strong love for it judged by how much she knows about it; dances, dressing, tourismattractions and a lot more. Must be elegant, self respecting, confident, disciplined and exude Uganda natural beauty.  The winner of the crown becomes Miss Tourism Uganda for a year, represents our country in Miss Tourism World and Miss Tourism International contests and is our Tourism ambassador on all public functions. And as one of my colleagues at our hangout normally says after taking one too many; Beauty lies in the beer holder!
