Pian upe game reserve.
Situated in north eastern Uganda in the culturally rich Karamoja
region is pian upe game reserve, about 446 km and 8:30 hours’ drive from Kampala
central business district. This wildlife
sanctuary is the second largest game reserve protected area in Uganda. Surprisingly this wildlife haven seems unchartered
and less known by many yet the mare glimpse of the vegetation that surrounds it
would speak volumes to wildlife enthusiasts on their safari to Uganda.
Gazeated in 1958 as debasian animal sanctuary and later was
changed to pian upe game reserve in 1964 granting it a test on time standing in regards
to wildlife protection, though it was subject to a threat following the
proposal to degazeate part of it to carry out fruit farming in the year 2003,
later the proposal was called off deeming the reserve threat free.
The reserve consists
of less chattered vegetation made up of open Savannah grassland which constitutes of acacia trees, red spike thorns kopjes etc .For
visitors on Uganda safaris intending to
visit this amazing wildlife and game reserve rest bares in mind that the mind the reserve has
the following wildlife species to include Jackals, Civets, Leopards, Wildcats;, Primates
like patas monkeys, vervet monekys, olive baboons; Ungulates like cape buffalo,
eland, Topi, common and blue duiker, Klipspringer, Gunteher dik dik, mountain
and Bohor reedbuck.and a few bird
species and they include ostriches. The
reserve also has snakes such as African rock python and puff adders.
