Birding in Uganda
Uganda is known as the Pearl of Africa and is filled with
scenic wonders that include the abundance of wildlife; it’s also blessed with
more than 1040 bird species. 25% of Uganda is covered by water bodies making
her the best destination for bird watching in Africa.
Uganda is blessed with many attraction including swamps and
rain forests like Afro-montane forest that has abundant of birds.
Bird species are commonly found in arid plains of kidepo
valley National Park, Kampala, Entebbe, Mgahinga forest, Rwenzori Mountain
Range, Lake Mburo National Park, Mabira forest, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison
Falls National Park, Kibale National Park among other.
What makes Uganda the best destination for bird watching
includes the following bird species, Grauer’s swamp, Green Broad-bill, Grauer’s,
Neumann’s warblers, Shelley’s and Dusky crimson wings, strange weaver,
yellow-eyed black flycatcher, Rwenzori Double-collared, shoe-bill which is
endemic to the Albertine rift valley, Africa fish eagle, skimmers, saddle
billed stock, the Grey crown crested crane [ is well known as the Uganda
National Bird ], red- throated alethe, red-faced woodland warbler, kivu ground
thrush just to mention the few.
Birders will not only focus on bird watching but will have a
chance of viewing other mammals like lions, leopards, giraffes and hippo,
mountain gorillas as well as chimpanzees, golden monkey to mention the few.

Elizabeth National Park
Birding in Queen Elizabeth National Park is a magnificent in
the famous and most attractive National Park. The park is home to over 600 bird
species and it’s the greatest among the other East African National Parks. Some
of the bird species include Black-rumped, African Skimmer, African Broad-bill,
Greater Flamingo, Shoe-bill, and Pink-backed Pelican among other.
Queen Elizabeth National Park hot spotting points are
Kazinga Channel, Kasenyi Area, and Mweya Peninsula, Maramagambo Forest
Birding in Lake Mburo
National Park
Lake Mburo National Park is one of the famous birding regions in Uganda
with plenty of birds found in the best spotting point of Swampy valleys of
Warukiri and Miriti Valley. Lake Mburo has got different bird species which include shoe-bill among others.
